First hours after birth Please note that labor and birth circumstances and interventions can impact breastfeeding initiation. If your baby did not latch during your hospital stay, don’t panic. Important: If your breasts are engorged, see the handout mentioned above and avoid the kneading technique shown. Instead use the gentle sweeping and tapping techniques. Aggressively massaging by hand or with a vibrating tool swollen, hard breasts can result in damage to the delicate milk ducts.
